Profitable Perennials for the Bioeconomy

The Biomass Innovation Hub (BIH) is a University of Illinois-led initiative that aims to jump-start a biomass-to-manufactured-product ecosystem (or “Field-to-Product Ecosystem”) for miscanthus in Central Illinois. Miscanthus and other related biomass crops offer scalable solutions across sectors of industry, including energy, packaging, animal care, and more.

Illinois is a leader in biomass research and production. As a transdiciplinary initiative, the BIH is leveraging resources and expertise from across campus and partnerships with industry to support workforce development and product innovation, building a robust and reliable supply chain along the way. This work bridges the gap between research and commercialization, building collaborations that move biomass products from idea to market.
